Völkl Karma - Skitest/Review

admin in Equipment, Skitest, Arlberg

Tested length 185cm
First impression: unobtrusive and nearly a little boring… no surprises, just a very nice ski.
Tried it in various conditions…

Hard and freshly groomed run:
good grip, easy turns of various radiuses
Soft runs: just a funmaker, from short to long turns, fast change of turns … a steamroller!?
Soft off-piste: not quite a ski for deep-deep pow, but perfect for easter conditions, easy short-turns, requires little effort to turn

Summary:
a perfect all-mountain weapon, stiff enough for groomed runs, wide enough for off-piste: is your perfect friend, without being cheeky

and guess what? I bought these guys a couple of days later :-)

And here it is!

Stöckli Rotor - Skitest/Review

admin in Equipment, Skitest, Arlberg

Tested length 179cm
First impression: WOW, that weapon turns fast!

Hard and freshly groomed run: interesting! why? perfect grip when skied at its natural radius, but difficult with longer (no significant grip) or shorter radius (doesn’t like being pushed into short turns)

Soft runs:
no troublemaker, but no fun-maker… runs okay

Soft off-piste: not quite a pow ski, dimensions not pow-enough! That is: although wide tip, tight is by far no wide enough

Summary: a good fun-machine for on-piste skiers, that love to ride one perfect radius all day long!

Arlberg St. Anton - Freeskiing Trips January 2007

admin in Arlberg, Freeriding, Trips, Resorts

Okay - the Italian Dolomites were quite nice… but we couldn’t help and went to St Anton for another week of skiing. But what should I say? Pow?

No way! More like Easter skiing, but with hardly any snow. Pretty poor conditions for january, but we tried to make the best out of it…here you go:

Schindlerkar: Schindlerkar and Mattun where okay until the rain hit the Arlberg
region. And it rained heavily up to 2.500m! Forget about the couliers directly
below Schindlerkar top station.

Albona: Hardly any snow on the Albona II side - hard, crusted, wind blown
towards Stuben. But no people at all, and runs groomed okay

Gampen: #34 from Kapall to Mattun was okay, but currently hardly any snow.
But look out for some chutes with windslab (but watch out for avalanche-danger!
under-layers are totally garbage!)

Rendl: Runs are okay, Park is closed! Roßfall only with wind blown snow -
But Malfontal is great as always! Found Pow last Saturday! Will tell you more about
Malfontal and how to get there soon (pix will follow as well)
